1. H.R. 20,584 (60th Cong., 1st sess.), which was prepared by the AFL Executive Council and introduced by Democratic congressman William Wilson of Pennsylvania on Apr. 10, 1908, exempted labor unions from the provisions of the Sherman Act.
2. H.R. 16,734 (60th Cong., 1st sess.), introduced by Republican congressman John Sterling of Illinois on Feb. 10, 1908, provided compensation to civilian government employees for personal injuries on the job. Congress did not pass the bill.
3. William R. Fairley of Pratt City, Ala., represented District 20 on the United Mine Workers of America executive board from 1902 to 1910.
4. Thomas C. Parsons was president (1906-8) of International Typographical Union 101 of Washington, D.C.
5. Peter J. McArdle was president of the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel, and Tin Workers from 1905 to 1911.
6. Cicero Maxwell Barnett (b. 1864) of Hartford, Ky., was president (1907-8) of the American Society of Equity (ASE). A lawyer and former Republican Kentucky legislator (1896-97), he worked as a farmer, edited the weekly Hartford Republican, and helped organize the Kentucky branch of the ASE.
